ARRIVAL OF PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VARIANTS OF 3008 AND 508

02.03.22

  • The arrival of the Plug-In Hybrid variants signifies Peugeot Australia’s first steps on the journey towards electrification
  • The new variants are now available across the Peugeot Australia dealer network

Peugeot Australia is welcoming plug-in hybrid electric variants (PHEV) of the popular 3008 SUV and 508 Fastback to its model range. The models mark the brand’s first electrified variants on sale in the Australian market and represent the beginning of an evolution for the Peugeot brand.

Set to elevate the brand into a growing segment of the market, the arrival of the plug-in hybrid variants comes after a successful pre-launch test drive program. To meet the demand of interested customers, exclusive access to the Peugeot 3008 GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid AWD and Peugeot 508 GT Fastback Plug-in Hybrid was provided at select dealerships across Australia.

Kate Gillis, Managing Director Peugeot Australia, said: “So far, the Peugeot 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD and Peugeot 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid have received an extremely positive reception through our pre-launch test drive program, and it is with great excitement that today we can extend our plug-in hybrid electric vehicle offering to the wider Australian audience.

“Both the 3008 SUV and 508 Fastback have been popular since launch amongst discerning customers looking for French flair and uncompromising style. The arrival of the plug-in hybrid variants of these models is only set to bolster and broaden their appeal within a new segment of the market.

“Peugeot has made a global commitment to have an electrified variant across the entire model line-up by 2025, so the local arrival of the 3008 and 508 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles is a pioneering moment for the brand in Australia as we set out on our future of electrification,” she said.

“Peugeot’s plug-in hybrid variants offer our customers an enriched driving experience with an array of clever technology working to enhance overall performance and efficiency using both the electric motors and combustion engine,” Ms Gillis added.

The Peugeot 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD achieves up to 60km** (WLTP) of electric driving range through a 13.2kWh battery capacity. The impressive total combined power output of 222kW is achieved by a 147kW 1.6 PureTech engine and dual electric motors - 81 kW front electric motor and 83 kW rear electric motor.

As well as being the first electrified variant of the popular 3008 SUV model range, the all-new 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD is notably the first variant introduced in all-wheel drive to the Australian market. Utilising newly developed Electric Rear Axle Drive (e-RAD) uses the front and rear dual electric motors to offer a responsive drive.

The Peugeot 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid is a highly specified variant that offers the elegance and bold styling that 508 customers love with the addition of electric motor benefits. The Peugeot 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid offers drivers 165kW of power resulting from a 133kW PureTech engine combined with an 81kW electric motor. Pairing a 11.8kWh battery capacity with an electric driving range of up to 55km** (WLTP), the pure electric driving experience offers range suited for the daily commute.

PULSE RACING PLUG-IN HYBRID PERFORMANCE

The 1.6 PureTech engine of both the 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD and 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid is paired with the new 8-speed e-EAT8 automatic gearbox to incorporate the electric drive train.

Also new to the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles is a highly optimised and imperceptible transition system. To alternate between electric and combustion engines, the torque converter of the combustion engine 3008 and 508 variants is replaced by a wet multi-plate clutch. This provides 60Nm more torque attributing to more responsiveness and instant acceleration. Subsequently, the 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD achieves an exhilarating 520Nm maximum torque and the 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid an impressive 360Nm maximum torque.

SMART ELECTRIC DRIVING

The 508 and 3008 plug-in hybrid variants utilise smart technology to help the driver get the most from the electric performance for an enriched driving experience.

‘B’ Mode regenerative braking: This system makes it possible to recover energy available during braking and when decelerating. This action allows partial charge of the high-voltage battery to increase the range when driving in electric mode. The new Brake function allows the vehicle to decelerate without pressing the brake pedal by acting as an engine brake and in turn, recharging the battery.

e-SAVE: Not only do the plug-in hybrid variants offer customers the choice of utilising pure electric driving and the traditional combustion engine, e-SAVE provides further versatility by enabling real-time control over electric energy reserves. Peugeot’s e-SAVE function is available on both models and allows the driver to save or regenerate all or part of the battery to be used at their discretion throughout the journey. To access e-SAVE functionality, there is an e-SAVE menu within the infotainment system where the driver simply needs to select Zero Emission Mode on the driving mode for 100% electric driving.

BATTERY TECHNOLOGY

The high-voltage, Lithium-ion battery (300V) is located under the rear seats on both the 508 and 3008 plug-in hybrid variants. The 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid battery has a capacity of 11.8kWh whilst the 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD battery has a capacity of 13.2kWh.

Notably, under certain technical conditions, 100% electric travel can reach up to 135 km/h before the internal combustion engine takes over.

To offer complete peace of mind when purchasing a Peugeot plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the 3008 and 508 variants both come with an 8-year or 160,000KM battery warranty. ^^

ENHANCED DRIVING MODES

Both the 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD and the 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid benefit from four driving modes. The unique combination of driving modes offers a rich and enjoyable driving experience, combining the versatility of an internal combustion engine with the silence and instant responsiveness of an electric motor.

Electric Mode (both variants): When sufficiently charged, this is the default mode for Peugeot plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Benefit from all the advantages of driving an electric vehicle, such as smooth, silent driving and zero CO2 emissions.

Hybrid Mode (both variants): Hybrid mode allows the driver to utilise the most efficient combination of electric or internal combustion engine depending on driving style and the type of road during the journey.

Sport Mode (both variants): take full advantage of maximum engine torque. Sport mode allows the driver to combine the power of both engines to enjoy a dynamic driving experience with firmer suspension and firmer electric power steering.

Comfort Mode (508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid only): Comfort mode combines all the benefits of Hybrid mode with the additional comfort of electronically controlled active suspension.

AWD Mode (3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD only): AWD mode continuously increases the vehicle’s traction at low and medium speeds on all four drive wheels and is particularly suitable when requiring additional stability and control on challenging terrain.

CHARGING PEUGEOT PLUG-IN HYBRID VEHICLES

Peugeot makes charging simple and convenient with a range of charging solutions available to customers. The 3.7kW on-board charger for both the 3008 and 508 variants is located under the boot floor and is cooled by the low temperature water circuit. The on-board charger unit restricts the accepted charger to a capacity of 3.7kW.

Each Peugeot plug-in hybrid vehicle comes as standard with a mode two charging cable, supplied with the vehicle at time of delivery. This will allow owners the ease to charge from a domestic 240V socket at home.

Charging the battery regularly to one hundred percent in both the 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid AWD and 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid, is recommended to experience the benefits of the electric driving capabilities. Charging the plug-in hybrid vehicles overnight via a mode two charging cable is a seamless and hassle-free approach. For the 508 GT Fastback Plug-in Hybrid’s 11.8kWh battery capacity, charging from zero percent to one hundred percent can take approximately five hours via a 2.3kW mode two cable. Similarly, for the 3008 GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid AWD’s 13.2 kWh battery capacity, charging from zero percent to full capacity can take approximately five and a half hours via a 2.3kW mode two cable.

However, charging times are dynamic depending upon a variety of variables, including the starting battery charge, charging equipment and ambient temperature.

DEFFERED CHARGING

The deferred charging capability of the Peugeot Plug-in Hybrid range allows for greater control and flexibility when charging. Performed via the multimedia touch screen, this function allows drivers to programme the best time for charging.

To set the deferred charging time, simply select the ‘electric’ menu of the touchscreen, choose the ‘charging’ tab and set the time of charge and press ‘ok’ to save the setting in the system.

Finally, to enable the deferred charge, connect the vehicle to a charging point, press the deferred charging button within one minute of connecting and the blue light will appear to signify the deferred charge setting is activated.

EASY CHARGING SOLUTIONS

Combine home charging and public charging to make everyday life easier. Whether the driver opts to use a home charging station or public charging station, Peugeot recommends daily charging to benefit from all the advantages of plug-in hybrid vehicles.

There are simple methods to charge the Peugeot plug-in hybrid variants and maintain electric mobility:

Domestic Socket: using a 2.3kW single-phase 10A chargercharging at home can be achieved by simply plugging into a domestic socket.

Home Charging Station: Using a home charging station saves significant charging time, meaning drivers can recover their entire driving range in just a few hours.

Public Charging: utilising the expanding network of public infrastructure is an easy way to top-up range on the go. Apps such as Chargefox, Plugshare and Chargepoint are great tools to help drivers plan their journeys and view real-time availability and usage.

PEUGEOT CHARGING PARTNERS

To recharge Peugeot vehicles faster, a dedicated EV charging station is recommended. Peugeot Australia is pleased to have partnered with JET Charge, allowing customers to benefit from tailored charging solutions to suit their home and individual requirements. To assist with the transition to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, Peugeot customers will be able to access manufacturer approved smart charging options through JET Charge, making charging easy and accessible.
