EFFICIENCY

One of PEUGEOT's primary concerns is its commitment to environmental conservation, which for us goes hand in hand with driving enjoyment. Our engineers have risen to the challenge, developing a range of solutions aimed at reducing environmental impact.

PureTech ENGINES

i

PEUGEOT presents its new range of PureTech 3-cylinder engines, all brimming over with efficiency and cutting-edge technology.

These new petrol engines are lighter and more compact, and this reduction in weight and size results in increased energy efficiency. We've also optimised fuel consumption and minimised friction - two further key factors behind their top-level performance.

PureTech engines offer you a unique level of driving pleasure even at the lowest engine speeds. With a maximum torque of 230 Nm (on the most powerful version) at 1,750 rpm, they offer the best available low speed/high power balance in today's market. And with 95% of the torque available between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm, performance remains first-rate at all times.

But for all their outstanding performance, these new engines are also highly economical, cutting fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25% in comparison with a 4-cylinder engine delivering the same level of power - saving you around 1.5 l of fuel per 100 km without sacrificing one iota of driving pleasure. And it was a PureTech engine that helped the new PEUGEOT 308 break the world record for the greatest distance travelled on a single tank.

BlueHDi ENGINES

i

Having created the most efficient system on the market in terms of reduction of harmful emissions, PEUGEOT now confirms its leadership in respect of environmental efficiency.

BlueHDi is the name given to the company's Euro 6 diesel engines, which combine top-notch performance with minimised emissions

BlueHDi technology offers an exclusive combination of oxidation catalyst, SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and FAP (additive particulate filter) system, allowing the engine to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) by up to 90% and cut CO2 emissions down to as low as 82g/km, while also reducing fuel consumption and eliminating up to 99.9% of all fine particles

BlueHDi technology complies fully with the Euro 6 standard. The technology will be used on all PEUGEOT diesel models, and offers the best available potential in respect of future pollution reduction standards.

EAT6 AUTOMATIC GEARBOX

The new EAT6 (Efficient Automatic Transmission 6) gearbox is an automatic 6-speed gearbox that optimises the vehicle's fuel consumption and your driving pleasure.

It was designed to deliver a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions while remaining supremely easy and convenient to use.

Its Quickshift technology offers an extremely smooth ride and one of the fastest gear shifts available in today's market.

This means the difference in emissions between manual and automatic has now been reduced to 5 g/km - putting the EAT6 in an exceptionally favourable position in terms of both driver enjoyment and fuel consumption.

STOP AND START

i

Available in our latest generation of petrol (e-THP) and HDi diesel (e-HDi) engines is the Stop & Start system.

Ideal for driving in the city, the Stop & Start feature automatically stops the engine whenever the car is waiting at a standstill - at a red light, for example, or when confronted with a "Stop" sign. Then, once the driver is ready to move on, the engine restarts gently and instantly.

This is beneficial in any number of ways: fuel consumption is kept under tighter control (-5% less than with a conventional vehicle when driving in dense urban traffic), CO2 emissions are reduced (zero emissions when the engine is stopped) and the car remains silent while waiting.

In short, Stop & Start technology allows you to combine environmentally friendly performance with the full measure of driving enjoyment!

And for total compatibility with all driving modes, Stop & Start can also be deactivated.

FAP - DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER

FAP (additive particulate filter) is PEUGEOT's solution for dealing with particle emissions in diesel engines. All the brand's HDi models come fitted with this technology.

The FAP system is self-cleaning. It treats gases generated by the combustion of diesel fuel and eliminates up to 99.9% of all particle emissions, irrespective of particle size and of the operating condition of the vehicle.

There are two stages to the process: first, particles are caught in a porous filter made of silicium carbide. After a few hundred kilometers, the regeneration stage is reached, in which the particles are incinerated at a very high temperature. The process is automatic and entirely undetectable.
